Objective

Career the networking technology, designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-routed networks.  To work in an environment that supports extensive training in networking technology and encourages individual growth and fluency in all levels of networking technology.  I would like to work for an entity that is currently working on or already implementing an IPv6 infrastructure.

2000–2005    U.S. Navy       USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72)

Intelligence Center Maintenance Technician

§     Duties include performing day to day administration and maintenance of the Secret network on board the Abraham Lincoln, consisting of two Gigabit Ethernet backbone switches, 12 GigE Alcatel Edge Switches, 3 Cisco 4000 routers, 12 Windows NT Servers, and 250 PC’s.

§     Responsible for creating and disseminating SOPS (Standard Operating Procedures) for all equipment to all divisional personnel

§     Responsible for the security of the entire classified network on board the Abraham Lincoln.   Implemented security practices such as using more stringent ACL’s and static routes on shipboard routers.

§     Used various commercial network analyzing software to find bottlenecks and possible security breeches.

§     Performed Maintenance and Upgrades to various Cisco routers, including Cisco 4000, and Cisco 3600 series routers

§     Also responsible for the administration and maintenance of various other systems including

§     TAMPS (Tactical Aircraft Mission Planning System):  SUN based system, designed to enable pilots to research, calculate and plan missions and then upload the mission data to various aircraft for in flight use.

§     PFPS (Portable Flight Planning Software):  Windows based suite of programs used by pilots and mission planners to research, plan, and simulate flight missions on top of satellite imagery.  PFPS take a variety of inputs to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information on all targets, threats, and environmental variables to make a user friendly picture.  PFPS is the most used and by far the most important tool for pilots and mission planners.

§     GCCS-M:  A Unix based Tactical Computer Network consisting of 40 HP-Unix workstations, responsible for taking assorted electronic input signals and combining them to display a tactical picture of the entire operating theatre

§     C2PC:  Windows based system designed to take output from GCCS-M system and display the tactical picture in a windows environment.

§     NITES (Naval Integrated Tactical Environmental System): Composed of 2 Unix Workstations, 1 WINNT Server, and 3 WINNT workstations.  The system takes all ships real time environmental data and combines it with real time regional data from satellites, to produce a complete meteorological forecast for the area

§     COWAN (Combined Operations Wide Area Network) is a coalition system that allows email to be passed to coalition (foreign) ships and installations.  Additionally COWAN provides Coalition At Sea (CAS), which allows for real time conferencing between coalition forces.

§     LOCE (Link Ops-Intel Center Europe), windows based coalition system that allows intelligence to be passed to NATO forces.  This intelligence is passed via email, http, and two installed Cisco IP Phones.

 

 

On the Job Education

May 2001

Part of a team of five administrators responsible for the upgrading of the Classified LAN onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln.

·         Replaced existing ATM Backbone switches and MSS with two GigE Backbone Switches

·         Installed GSM-155 Modules in all edge switches to allow participation in GigE environment

·         Installed and configured dual GigE backbone switches.  This included configuring the switches to provide layer 3 routing functions between 6 networks.

·         Upgraded 75 high use PCs with 100mbs NICs for more reliable operation in the GigE network.

 

Apr 2001

·         Participated in installation of NFN (Naval Fires Network), consisting of nine servers, nine workstations, one Cisco Catalyst switch and on Cisco 7000 series router.  All nine workstations were Sun Ultra Sparc 2’s  with Windows NT daughter boards installed.  Workstations and servers are connected via ATM and Ethernet NICs and Switches.

 

Aug 2001

·         Supervised installation of NITES (Naval Integrated Tactical Environmental System).  Installation consisted of configuring a rack with a Windows NT Server, a Unix Server, and a ten drive raid for both servers.  Additionally four WINNT Workstations with web cams, one color printer, one scanner, and one External Communications Interface Assembly (ECIA) were installed and configured to connect to the NITES servers and to connect to shipboard domain.  Finally one Alcatel OMNIswitch was installed and configured to participate in shipboard GigE environment.

 

September 2001

·         Supervised upgrade of TAMPS MPLAN from ATM to GigE, installed Ethernet NICs in all ten machines.  The four TAMPS MPLAN switches were upgraded to participate in GigE environment

 

January 2003

·         Supervised the upgrade of eighty workstations from PFPS 3.1.2 to PFPS 3.2.  The new version of PFPS offers pilots and mission planners more flexibility, it offers compatibility with different aircraft platforms, and ease of use.  PFPS 3.2 also allows for many more types of map data to be viewed.

 

March 2003

·         Upgraded two PCs with Windows 2000 to facilitate the use of three external USB 2.0 hard drives.  The two 200Gb and one 250Gb hard drives were pre loaded with map data for OSW and were used as an integral part of mission planning.  I shared the three drives for use on the network, then instructed selected users on how to map the drives for use with FalconView.
